Rose Brand’s design team provided the behind the scenes support to help restore, recreate and improve the soft goods in the Calumet Theatre. Working with Calumet’s Technical Director, Davey Holmbo, the initial costing began in Aug of 2006. We visited the site in May 2007 with the design/build process taking about 1-1/2 years. The final installation of a new Main Drape, Valance, and swagged Border of a custom green 25 oz. Prestige Velour along with black 22 oz Encore Velour Traveler Stage Curtains, borders and muslin Cyclorama was completed in Dec. of 2007. Rose Brand created the new drapery to match the historic look of the original drape adding internal structural flexibility to expand or contract the drape for cleaning and to provide additional "looks."
Opening in March of 1900 the Calumet Theatre’s marquee read like a who’s who of American Theatre. Over the years, with the decline in stage productions the theatre was almost exclusively a movie theatre and falling into disrepair. In 1983 The Calumet Theatre Company was formed as an independent, non-profit cultural organization. The recent installation of this new drapery, masking, borders and other technical and backstage reconstruction carries this historic landmark theatre into the 21st century.
